New Zealand’s Ministry of Health is running a month-long trial of an app that connects to wearable smart devices to see if it can detect COVID-19 in border workers.
The ëlarm app has been developed by Kiwi data analytics firm Datamine and uses artificial intelligence to inform users of early physiological changes that might indicate they are becoming unwell, several days before they experience symptoms.
The ministry’s deputy director-general of data and digital Shayne Hunter said MoH has organised a month-long trial of the ëlarm app, which connects to wearable devices such as Fitbit, Apple Watch and other smart watches or fitness trackers.
