The state and federal governments are developing an ambitious strategy for digital health over the next three years, planning to establish a new Digital Health Cybersecurity Centre, ensure the interoperability of secure messaging services, allow data from personal health devices to be recorded on the My Health Record and design and implement a national approach to evaluating the safety of health apps and medical devices.
The draft strategy, written by the E-Health Working Group (EHWG) consisting of state and territory health department CIOs, federal Department of Health special adviser Paul Madden and the National E-Health Transition Authority (NEHTA), has what is says is a five-year “planning horizon” with a focus on the next three years, underpinned by a three-year implementation plan.
