It may have been promised many times in the last six years but a series of breakthroughs in making the rival secure messaging systems interoperable and sustainable is set to be announced, with the Australian Digital Health Agency (ADHA) to convene a new program board to guide development on a national basis and the vendors working together to overcome some remaining technical barriers.

Pulse+IT has confirmed that the ADHA will set up a secure messaging program board co-chaired by the RACGP's Nathan Pinskier and eHealth Queensland CEO Mal Thatcher, while developments have taken place in the background to ensure the national Health Provider Directory (HPD), which is intended to function as an address book for secure messaging endpoint locations services, is functioning as it should.
