When it comes to digital public health, the infodemic of misinformation should concern us all.
The viral spread of information impacting people’s health was evident during COVID but the challenge continues with nutrition, cancer and oncology treatments, vaccines, STIs, HIV, self-image and many more personal topics, says Tina Purnat, a global leader in digital public health.
Ms Purnat describes the challenges for the “information ecosystem” and says digitisation has profoundly impacted the way people search for and use health information.
Interviewed on today’s PULSE podcast, Ms Purnat an infodemic management leader who has worked extensively with the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control, and the World Health Organization, said: “A healthy information ecosystem means we need to be aware not just how we broadcast health information, and making health information available, but we need to make information available that is relevant to each individual person needing it at any time, – whether it’s in a time of crisis, or, for example, when they’re searching for information about the prescription or diagnosis that they’ve just received.”
Ms Purnat features on today’s podcast episode Apple Cider Vinegar & Misinformation, interviewed by hosts Dr Louise Schaper and Dr George Margelis.
