Waikato suspects phishing email to blame for malware attack

Waikato DHB’s information systems team is working on the theory that the malicious attack that caused the shutdown of its IT systems yesterday was an incursion via an email attachment.

Waikato DHB CEO Kevin Snee told Radio NZ the attackers had not yet threatened to release patient information, just a demand for a ransom, which would not be paid.
