Going from paper to paperless and live with a complex electronic medical record, in one day, in one big bang, in three hospitals simultaneously, might be considered rather ambitious. In the middle of a global pandemic, it is probably unprecedented.
That is the story of the big bang implementation of an Epic EMR at Royal Melbourne Hospital, Royal Women's Hospital and the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre in early August, as Victoria went into stage four restrictions and RMH was at the epicentre of caring for thousands of people in the North Melbourne towers lockdown.
